The Department of Biotechnology, Institute of Computational Biology is currently seeking a
Postdoctoral Research Associate

Extent of employment: 40 hours per week
Duration of employment: 1st of March 2025, limited to 31st of July 2028Al ocation in compliance with the Col ective Agreement for University Staff to job group: B1 lit. b
Gross monthly salary: (depending on previous eligible experience) at least: € 4.752,30
(payable 14 times per year)
We are a multidisciplinary team focusing on the genomics of crop plants. Our labs are located at the
BOKU Muthgasse campus well connected to the city centre of Vienna. In the past years, our research
efforts focused on the analysis of genomes of cultivated and wild beets and related species using
computational methods. The group’s research activities address further species such as common
bean, spinach, quinoa and different insects and pathogens. We offer a friendly and supporting
atmosphere and state-of-the-art computing infrastructure (see . We are
looking forward to expanding our team by a dedicated and strongly motivated person with distinct
interest in challenges of bioinformatics in the context of genome analysis.
Responsibilities
- Scientific research in bioinformatics, genomics and evolution of crop plants and their wild
relatives, supporting and extending current research lines of the Institute of Computational
Biology
- Preparation of scientific publications, presentations at conferences and seminars
- Participation in grant writing
- Supporting the group’s computing infrastructure, databases and services
- Teaching activities in English and/or German
Required skil s and qualifications
- Doctorate degree / PhD with scientific focus on genome bioinformatics / computational
biology
- Language skil s: English, German
- Experience with the analysis and interpretation of large data sets, in particular high
throughput sequencing data from eukaryotic organisms
- Experience with machine learning methods
- Solid skil s in programming and scripting (Perl or Python, R, bash)
- Scientific writing skills
- Excellent publication record
- Experience in presenting at conferences
Desirable skil s and qualifications
- Knowledge of wet-lab methods and sequencing technologies
- Teaching and supervision experience
- Experience in international research collaborations or participation in a research stay
abroad
