The Department of Agricultural Sciences, Institute of Development Research is currently seeking a
Postdoctoral Research Associate
temporary replacement
(Reference code 63)
Extent of employment: 20 hours per week
Duration of employment: as of now, limited to 31st of August 2025
Workplace: 1190 Vienna
Al ocation in compliance with the Col ective Agreement for University Staff to job group: B1 lit. b
Gross monthly salary: (depending on previous eligible experience) at least: € 2.466,50
(payable 14 times per year)
Responsibilities

  • Support with research and teaching in the APPEAR project AMUTI, based in Uganda, in the

context of sustainable use and governance of natural resources

  • Contribute to innovative teaching formats and co-learning in the context of AMUTI, as well

as in other courses at the Institute, applying participatory, gender-transformative and inter-
and transdisciplinary approaches, as well as systems and scenario development

  • Co-develop the upcoming summer school within the APPEAR project AMUTI, July 2025 in

Uganda

  • Co-supervise doctoral students at the Institute, specifical y in the APPEAR project AMUTI
  • Co-supervise Master students at the Institute, specifically within the upcoming summer

school in Uganda

  • Support with general administrative tasks at the Institute

Required skil s and qualifications

  • Doctoral degree/PhD
  • Research experience in the following areas: sustainable agriculture and food systems,

environmental studies, sociology

  • Experience in the successful management and coordination of research projects
  • Experience in higher education curriculum development
  • Teaching experience
  • Background on gender, gender-based violence, structural inequality/discrimination,

intersectionality

  • Good publication record in international peer-reviewed journals, as well as experience with

policy/public engagement publications

  • Excellent language skills in English (scientific writing, teaching, communication)
  • Language skills: German and English

Desirable skil s and qualifications

  • Background of working in international trans- and interdisciplinary teams
  • Expertise in participatory and qualitative research methods
