If you are a natural leader with a knack for sales, exceptional customer service skills, and a desire to contribute to the success of a significant historic site, this role offers a unique chance to lead a team, implement innovative strategies, and play a key part in shaping the visitor experience at one of English Heritage’s most important locations.As Visitor Welcome Manager, you will lead a membership-sales culture at one of English Heritage’s busiest sites. You’ll be a skilled thinker on topics such as: coaching, visitor journeys, visitor welcome and sales.As the Visitor Welcome Manager at Whitby Abbey, you will be instrumental in optimising visitor flow and experiences to boost satisfaction and membership recruitment at English Heritage’s largest surplus-driving site in the North. Your responsibilities will encompass day-to-day leadership of the front of house teams, leading the team to exceed membership targets, and contributing to the overall commercial success of this historically significant location while occasionally supporting neighbouring sites.Five essential criteria for the role:Proven track record of delivering commercial targets: This demonstrates the ability to contribute directly to the site’s financial success, a crucial aspect given its status as a surplus-driving location.Able to successfully demonstrate leading and managing a team: The role involves managing the front-of-house and admissions teams, requiring experience in leadership, motivation, and development.Broad experience of face-to-face selling: A significant part of the role focuses on maximising membership recruitment through direct interaction with visitors.Demonstrable understanding of the principles of excellent customer care and visitor service: Ensuring a positive visitor experience is paramount for English Heritage, and this role is central to delivering that at Whitby Abbey.Ability/availability to work on a 5/7 day roster, which may include evenings, on-call duties, and Bank Holidays: The operational nature of a visitor attraction requires flexibility in working hours.Interviews will be held on WC 16th June – on MS Teams (link will be supplied).If you would like to talk to us e.g. about workplace adjustments or working patterns, please contact Victoria Lucas, on victoria.lucas@english-heritage.org.uk.
