Let’s shape the future together!Your personal sphere of play:As a university assistant postdoc, you will join the Department of Cognition, Emotion, and Methods in Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology. The department consists of approximately 100 staff members organized in eight research units with fMRI, EEG, fNIRS, VR, eye-tracking, physiology, and brain stimulation facilities. The EVA-LABS team currently consists of several international postdoctoral and PhD students working on a variety of topics within experimental aesthetics (e.g. art, faces, urban environments, lower-level features, comparative aesthetics, etc.). The focus of our research is to understand the role that aesthetics/beauty play in various aspects of our everyday life. The position is limited to 6 years.Your future tasks:As a member of our team, you actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • developing and strengthening your independent research profile
  • leading research projects / scientific studies in the research field “empirical aesthetics”
  • support of ongoing Studies in the EVA LABS, field and lab studies
  • publications and conference contributions
  • responsibility for project applications and the acquisition of third-party funding
  • possibility given for preparing / writing a (publication-ready) habilitation thesis
  • Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the Austrian Collective Bargaining Agreement (“Kollektivvertrag”)
  • supervision of students
  • taking on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administrations.

This is part of your personality:Applicants must have a PhD in psychology. Proven interest and research experience in empirical aesthetics is an advantage. For this position, we seek applicants with research experience in experimental methods, strong interest in field studies (museum, urban interventions), teaching interest (at BA and MA level), and project management experience. Professional skills such as programming knowledge and skills (e.g., R, Python) and a strong record of scholarly achievement (e.g., through publications in peer-reviewed journals, appropriate standards in the field, etc.) are required.We are looking for candidates who have experience in supervising students; and a strong interest in interdisciplinary research (in empirical aesthetics and related fields). Excellent written and spoken English skills are a must, as is the ability to present (e.g. as evidenced by presentations at international conferences). As we have international networks, interest in cultural comparisons is also an advantage. The knowledge of eye-tracking and physiological measurements is a plus.The ability to work in a team is important, as are strong verbal and written communication skills. Basic knowledge of the German language is an advantage, as is experience abroad. Fixed-term contract and fair salary: Full-time position (40 hrs/week); the fixed-term contract has a maximum term of six years; with a basic salary of EUR 4932.90 (14 times a year) according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement of the University of Vienna, the salary increases if we can credit professional experience.
