Reference no.: 3696Your future work place:The Department of Art History at the University of Vienna is one of the oldest and largest. Since 2009, it has been home to the Laboratory for Cognitive Research in Art History (CReA, ), a world-leading center for interdisciplinary studies combining art history with cognitive science and computer science. In addition to databases and visual analysis, the focus is on recording eye movements while viewers look at artworks in laboratory and museum experiments.
The Department of Art History is part of the Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies ( ). The CReA lab is also associated with the Vienna Cognitive Science Hub ( ) and the Doctoral School Cognition, Behaviour and Neuroscience (CoBeNe, ).Your future tasks:

  • You are involved in research projects of the CReA lab and coordinate the activities of the lab with Prof. Raphael Rosenberg
  • You establish an independent research profile
  • You publish internationally and give lectures
  • You develop and apply for projects and raise third-party funds
  • You hold courses independently and supervise students in seminaries

You have:

  • A completed doctorate/Ph.D. in art history, cognitive science, or related subjects
  • An outstanding dissertation
  • Research competence and initiative proven through international publications
  • Excellent English skills (C1)
  • Knowledge of German is desirable
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Enthusiasm and ideally proven ability to work in a team, with social and communicative skills

  • A limited contract: the position becomes available on June 1, 2025, and is limited to four and a half years. Further employment at the University of Vienna for up to eight years with third-party-funded projects is possible.
