Your ResponsibilitiesThe Communications Team at ISTA strives to become a global pioneer of institutional science communication. It tells inspiring stories of scientists and their research to various target audiences, and increases the visibility of ISTA around the globe. To inspire top scientific talent and high-end stakeholders with these stories, we count on your experience in the international media environment and your skills to foster meaningful relations to audiences abroad. You will share the following responsibilities with the current Media Relations Officer but with a particular focus on international PR and media work.
- Public Relations: Strategic and operational responsibility for public relation activities, with a focus on international visibility; planning and managing collaborations such as media cooperations
- Media Relations: Proactively maintaining contact with journalists, editors, and media representatives, keeping distribution lists up-to-date, and supporting journalists in their press activities, by for instance guiding media delegations visiting our campus
- Media Monitoring: Active monitoring of the media landscape and trends, particularly in institute-relevant fields (academia, higher education policy, science and research) , including tagging of clippings to facilitate reporting
- Press Office Text Production: Audience-specific identification and research of communication content for institute channels; writing, editing, distributing, and pitching press releases and materials (interviews, articles, etc.)
- Campaigns and Project Management: Organization and coordination of multi-channel campaigns in collaboration with team members, for instance, for institutional calls, scholarship programs, residencies, or exhibition openings; development, budgeting, and implementation of specific public relations activities and projects
Your Profile
- Completed higher education in the fields of journalism or communications studies
- Several years of professional experience in the field of international public relations, including media relations across various countries
- Profound understanding of processes in editorial departments, journalistic experience advantageous
- Excellent knowledge of the media business with strong connections to international outlets and adept at dealing with strategically important journalists, editors, and stakeholders
- High affinity for scientific topics
- Excellent written and verbal command of English, German (and other languages) advantageous
- Strong team player with high degree of hands-on mentality and service orientation
- Proactive, timely, accurate, and reliable working style with strong attention to detail
- Structured and solution-oriented organizational skills, project management experience advantageous
- Outstanding social skills with a naturally open, inclusive, and intentional approach to language
- Time flexibility, e.g., for events outside regular office hours
