- Prepare, assemble and check surgical equipment, instruments, consumables, and drugs for a wide range of operative procedures. * Undertake the scrub role in a professional and proficient manner, including conducting mandatory surgical checks before, during, and after procedures. * Support the safe transfer and positioning of patients in line with best practice and manual handling guidelines.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will support the delivery of safe, high-quality care in the Operating Department, with a particular focus on Urology, Gynaecology and ENT procedures. Working as part of the MITU teams, the Scrub Practitioner will prepare, manage, and maintain surgical equipment, support the surgical team during procedures, and uphold the highest standards of perioperative practice. This is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside leading consultants and theatre teams, delivering high-quality perioperative care across a range of surgical specialties, with a focus on Urology, Gynaecology and ENT. You will play a vital role in preparing and managing surgical equipment, supporting procedures from start to finish, and ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and care throughout the perioperative journey. Key Duties * Prepare, assemble, and check surgical instruments, equipment, and consumables for a range of procedures, ensuring readiness for each surgical list.
- Undertake the scrub role in a professional and proficient manner, including completing all mandatory surgical checks.
- Support safe patient positioning and transfer before, during, and after procedures.
- Act in the circulating role when required, maintaining safe and efficient theatre operations.
- Maintain stock control and ensure equipment is in optimal working order.
- Contribute to ongoing quality improvement initiatives and share ideas for service development.
- Support and mentor junior colleagues, acting as a positive role model within the team.
Skills and Experience * Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
- Minimum of one year’s post-registration theatre experience.
- Demonstrable scrub skills, ideally with experience in Urology, Gynaecology, and ENT.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Flexible, organised, and able to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
