Reference no.: 4416The positionWe welcome applications from outstanding candidates whose work lies at the intersection of statistics, machine learning, data analytics and modern AI algorithms. This includes, in particular, statistics for high-dimensional and complex data, stochastic optimization, modern machine learning methods, scalable algorithms for advanced Machine Learning techniques and explainable AI.In teaching, the position will contribute, inter alia, to the mathematical foundations of all study programs at the faculty, particularly within the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in Statistics and Data Analytics.In addition to the numerous professors at the Department of Statistics and Operations Research, there are strong links within the faculty to the Department of Business Decisions and Analytics, which also offers a Master’s degree in Business Analytics. The faculty also hosts the Oskar Morgenstern Doctoral School (OMDS), whose mission is to equip doctoral students with a theory-based approach complemented by modern empirical, experimental, statistical, and computational methods to address complex challenges in economics and business. In addition, the DataScience@Uni Vienna research network offers extensive opportunities for cooperation with researchers from various departments and faculties at the University of Vienna, whose focus lies on theory and applications in the field of data science and machine learning. The Faculties of Mathematics and of Computer Science, which are particularly active and strong in research in these areas, are part of this network.Your academic profile:

  • Doctoral degree/PhD
  • Two years of international research experience during or after doctoral studies
  • Outstanding research achievements, excellent publication and funding record, international reputation
  • Gender and diversity competence
  • Experience in designing of and participating in research projects, ability to lead research groups and acquire third-party funding
  • Enthusiasm for excellent teaching and supervision at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral level

We expect the successful candidate to acquire, within three years, proficiency in German sufficient for teaching in bachelor’s programmes and for participation in university committees.We offer:
