Your ResponsibilitiesThe (NMR Facility) at ISTA supports the vibrant international scientific community at the institute. Our machine park includes four Bruker NMR spectrometers (400 MHz, 600 MHz, 700 MHz, and 800 MHz) and a benchtop EPR spectrometer and the facility provides measurements for both solution and solid-state samples. We seek a proactive personality to support the NMR users and help maintaining the NMR equipment park during the maternity leave of our technician.

  • Daily maintenance and oversight of the NMR and EPR spectrometers
  • Filling the magnets with liquid nitrogen and liquid helium on a regular basis
  • Assisting internal users with measurement setups and data interpretation
  • Running routine NMR measurements for external NMR users
  • Providing safety inductions and training sessions to faculty, staff, and students before their use of equipment
  • Managing the booking system

Your Profile

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in chemistry or a related field
  • Proven experience in either one or both solution- and solid-state NMR spectroscopy
  • Understanding of Bruker NMR hardware and software is an advantage but not mandatory
  • Knowledge of EPR spectrometers is beneficial
  • Experience in the use of cryogenic liquids
  • Laboratory skills gained in an academic or industrial setting
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English (Institute’s working language)
  • Solid organizational and problem solving skills
  • Proactive approach and a process oriented mindset
