The group develops the Lagrangian transport model FLEXPART and studies all aspects of transport in the atmosphere, ranging from greenhouse gases to pollutants, water vapour and heat, and uses inverse modelling techniques to determine sources of greenhouse gases, air pollutants and radionuclides.To learn more about our team, we invite you to visit our website: . To learn more about FLEXPART, visit .Your personal sphere of play:We seek a highly motivated candidate to co-lead the further development of the transport model FLEXPART and its applications. FLEXPART is a community model, and our group is committed to its further development and making it more user-friendly. We also maintain and develop software to process meteorological input data to the model, as well as software for the analysis of model output. One example is the software FLEXINVERT, which is used for inverse modelling applications, e.g., to determine the sources of greenhouse gases. We are also seeking to establish new scientific application fields for FLEXPART, and the candidate will be free to choose future research directions of his/her own choice.The successful candidate will be a creative scientist who enjoys both writing and documenting model source code, as well as seeking novel model applications. As a result of this work, peer-reviewed publications documenting the model and describing its applications are expected. The successful candidate will also support master students, doctoral students and Postdocs in the group, and will – to a limited extent – provide support to external users of FLEXPART.The responsibility for the code development will be shared with another senior scientist, Marina Dütsch, and the development shall integrate the work of the whole groupThe position will initially be limited to three years duration, after which it can become permanent by mutual agreement.Your tasks will be:Active participation in research, teaching, and administration, which means you will in particular:

Fair salary plus health care and social benefits: The gross monthly base salary is 4,932.90 EUR, but may be higher, depending on your experience, and can increase up to 6,488.60 EUR (both amounts apply for 2025; 14 times per year, i.e. additionally to the regular monthly amount, half of it is paid 4 times a year). This allows for a comfortable life in a vibrant city with affordable housing prices and quick access to the outdoors.
