Are you a highly motivated Senior Scientist looking to join a dynamic team focused on drug development? This full-time role is ideal for someone with a strong experimental background in cell biology and molecular biology techniques who is eager to take on a leadership role in the lab. The Senior Scientist will be reporting to the Head of Biology and working closely with lab technicians, providing troubleshooting support, designing experiments, interpreting data, and contributing to the development of novel drug candidates from concept to clinic.Position: Senior Scientist (R&D)Location: ViennaKey responsibilities:

  • Method Development: Setup, optimize, and implement new laboratory techniques and workflows to enhance research capabilities.
  • Data Analysis and Interpretation: Analyze experimental data, identify trends, and troubleshoot complex scientific problems. Provide clear and accurate reports of findings, highlighting key insights and next steps.
  • Team Support and Troubleshooting: Serve as the first point of contact for technical questions from lab technicians, providing guidance and troubleshooting support to ensure smooth experimental execution.
  • Quality Control: Ensure the plausibility and quality of data produced by lab technicians through preliminary data review, providing feedback when necessary to improve results.
  • Collaboration with Leadership Team: Work closely with leadership and management to develop experimental strategies, plan research activities, and communicate results. Provide input on project progress, scientific approaches, and resource allocation.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and comprehensive laboratory notebooks and documentation to ensure reproducibility and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Research and Experimentation: Independently plan, design, and execute experiments across a variety of techniques, including but not limited to:
  • Molecular biology (Cloning, designing vectors, sequencing)
  • qPCR, binding assays, reporter assays
  • Flow cytometry, transfection, viral transduction
  • Cell culture and maintenance
  • Western blotting (classic and capillary)
  • Degradation assays, cytotoxicity assays
  • Other experimental assays to study mechanism of action (MOA) based on current drug development targets

Experience/Qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology).
  • Strong experience in experimental design, execution, and data analysis in a laboratory setting.
  • Practical experience in several or all of the techniques mentioned (e.g., cloning, Western blot, qPCR, flow cytometry).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues independently.
  • Strong communication skills in English (both written and spoken), with the ability to present scientific data clearly and effectively.
  • Experience in cancer research or drug development. A solid understanding of the drug discovery process is a strong plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and integrate into an existing team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, ensuring high standards in experimental execution and data quality.
  • Previous experience managing or mentoring junior scientists and lab technicians.
  • Familiarity with the latest advancements in drug development and cancer research methodologies.

€55000 – 65000 per year
