Job Title: Director of Pre-Clinical Business DevelopmentCompany: CDMOLocation: Remote – DACHDepartment: Business DevelopmentReports to: PresidentJob Overview:As the Director of Pre-Clinical Business Development, you will play a pivotal role in driving growth and expansion within the pre-clinical stage of pharmaceutical development services. You will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, establishing strategic partnerships, and managing client relationships. This role requires a deep understanding of Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) operations, pharmaceutical pre-clinical research, and drug development processes. Your key objective will be to accelerate revenue growth by acquiring and managing partnerships with biotech and pharmaceutical companies looking for pre-clinical research, development, and manufacturing support.Key Responsibilities:Business Strategy & Growth:

  • Develop and implement strategic business development plans to grow the pre-clinical services portfolio.
  • Identify new business opportunities, including expanding into emerging markets, new therapeutic areas, and cutting-edge technologies.
  • Work closely with executive leadership and technical teams to align business development goals with the company’s broader strategic initiatives.

Client Acquisition & Relationship Management:

  • Generate leads, develop proposals, and negotiate contracts with biotech, pharmaceutical, and academic clients for pre-clinical development projects.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with key decision-makers and influencers within target organizations.
  • Act as a liaison between clients and internal technical teams, ensuring clear communication and smooth project execution.

Market Research & Analysis:

  • Stay informed about market trends, competitor activities, and technological advancements in the pre-clinical CDMO space.
  • Conduct market analysis to identify growth opportunities and assess the needs of potential clients in drug discovery and pre-clinical development stages.
  • Provide insights on market demands and emerging technologies to inform service offerings and pricing strategies.

Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:

  • Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, regulatory, and quality assurance teams to ensure that client projects are aligned with the company’s capabilities and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure timely and successful delivery of solutions tailored to clients’ needs.
  • Facilitate smooth transitions from pre-clinical development stages to clinical trial manufacturing.

Contract Negotiation & Financial Performance:

  • Lead contract negotiations, including pricing models, service agreements, and timelines to achieve mutually beneficial partnerships.
  • Achieve and exceed revenue targets and key business development metrics.
  • Track and report on business development activities, opportunities, and progress using CRM tools or other reporting systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, biotechnology, chemistry, or a related field; advanced degree (MSc, PhD, or MBA) preferred.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in business development within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or CDMO sectors, with a focus on pre-clinical drug development services.
  • Proven track record of identifying, securing, and managing business partnerships within the life sciences or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Strong understanding of the drug discovery and development process, particularly pre-clinical stages (toxicology, pharmacology, ADME, formulation development, etc.).
  • Familiarity with CDMO business models and regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed (domestic and international) to meet clients and attend industry events.

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong industry network within biotechnology, pharma, and academic institutions.
  • Understanding of emerging technologies such as biologics, cell & gene therapy, and other innovative therapeutic modalities.
  • Experience using CRM platforms to track and manage business development activities.
