Job description

A leading heritage and conservation contractor in the Midlands is looking for an experienced QS on construction and restoration projects, particularly within their heritage building and restoration work. A a QS, you would be involved in tasks like analysing sub-contractor quotes, reviewing contracts, preparing payment applications, and managing variations. You will also contribute to financial forecasting and cost management. Specific Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Contract Administration: QS professionals manage the commercial aspects of contracts, ensuring compliance with terms and protecting the company’s interests.
  • Subcontractor Procurement and Management: They are involved in procuring sub-contractors, negotiating contracts, and managing their work throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Cost Management and Forecasting: QS roles involve tracking costs, preparing financial reports, and forecasting future expenses to ensure projects stay within budget.
  • Claims and Dispute Resolution: Senior QS roles may focus on handling claims and disputes related to contracts, requiring strong negotiation skills and knowledge of contractual issues.
  • Variation Management: QS professionals assess and manage changes to the original contract scope, evaluating the impact on costs and timelines.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Quantity Surveying Degree: A relevant degree in Quantity Surveying is a fundamental requirement.
  • Experience in Construction and Restoration: Experience in the construction industry, particularly in heritage building and restoration, is highly valued.
  • Contractual Knowledge: A strong understanding of contract law, including conditions of contract and legal implications, is crucial.
  • Communication and Negotiation Skills: Effective communication and negotiation skills are needed to interact with clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills: The ability to analyse complex situations, identify problems, and develop solutions is essential.
  • Financial Acumen: An understanding of financial principles and the ability to manage project budgets are important.
