Offer DescriptionThe University of Klagenfurt is pleased to announce the following open position at the interfaculty university centre Digital Age Research Center (D!ARC), in compliance with the provisions of § 98 (open-ended) or § 99 (five years) of the Austrian Universities Act:Professor of Digital HumanitiesThis is a full-time contract with an expected starting date of 1 February 2026. The decision on either § 98 (open-ended) or § 99 (five-year fixed term) will be made during the selection and appointment procedure.The University of Klagenfurt is a young, vibrant and innovative university located at the intersection of Alpine and Mediterranean culture in an area that offers an exceptionally high quality of life. D!ARC is the core and driving force of the university-wide research area “Humans in the Digital Age” (HDA). It aims not only to investigate the diverse developments of the digital age in various areas of society but also to shape them actively. - research and teaching on the cultural and/or social science dimensions of digitalisation, e.g. from a perspective of cultural anthropology, educational science, media and communication studies, sociology and/or history (in a broad range of possible topics, e.g. everyday and popular cultures, work, datafication and developments in society as a whole)
- the advancement of cultural and social science programmatic perspectives for the D!ARC
- raising the institutional and organisational profile of the D!ARC in the area of Humans in the Digital Age (HDA) and inter- and transdisciplinary research (including the acquisition of third-party funding), as well as interfaculty collaboration
- participation in the Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral degree programmes offered by the university, in particular at the Faculty of Arts, Humanities & Education and the Faculty of Social Sciences
- providing guidance and supervision to students
- the support of early career researchers
- participation in university management
The salary is subject to negotiation. - Habilitation in a subject related to cultural studies or social science or an equivalent qualification
- First-class doctorate
- Experience in coordinating interdisciplinary project networks or research institutions
- Outstanding and internationally prominent research and publication activities in the above-mentioned dimensions of digitalisation
- Experience in acquiring competitive third-party funding
- Proven teaching experience at university level and expertise in higher education didactics
- Excellent written and oral language skills in German and English, leadership skills, strong communication skills and ability to work in a team
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in cooperating with partners in the fields of technology, law, economics or the arts
- Knowledge of technical aspects of digitalisation (e.g. programming languages, algorithms, robotics)
- Experience in third mission
- Expertise in the area of gender mainstreaming and diversity management
