We have a fantastic opportunity for a Principle Pharmacist to join our Pharmacy team at HMP Thameside, a busy category B remand Prison located in South East London, close to Woolwich Arsenal and Plumstead stations. The prison houses around 1250 patients aged 17 plus, including an 18 bed inpatient unit.This role would suit an experienced pharmacist with proven management and change management skills. You must be confident leading a large team and have knowledge of primary care mental health and substance misuse pharmacy services.Within this role you will be managing a team of 15-20 staff members including 2 clinical pharmacists. We are looking for a great communicator with a passion for developing pharmacy services.Hours Monday- Friday8.30am-4.30pm or 9am-5pmSalaryThis position is full time, you’ll receive an annual salary up to £68,500 per annum depending on experienceHow we will support you

Candidates are required to have a Legal right to work in the UK due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.What you’ll be doingAs a Principle Pharmacist, your responsibilities will vary. You will

  • Provide leadership and support to the dedicated pharmacy team and the wider healthcare team around all aspects of safe use and handling of medicines within the secure environment.
  • Ensure that there is good partnership working between teams to ensure that safe and effective patient centred care is at the core of what we do and in line with our wellbeing approach.
  • Demonstrate high degrees of professional judgement across the role which will encompass both a leadership and clinical aspect.
  • Continually develop your professional knowledge and skills and be expected to facilitate your own prescribing clinics within your sphere of competence.
  • Understand cost effective prescribing practices and ensure these are implemented across the team of prescribers and empower the pharmacy team to challenge inappropriate prescribing.

  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Vocational Master’s Degree in Pharmacy including pre-registration training
  • Non-medical Prescribing qualification
  • Relevant post qualifications
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Leadership experience
  • Experience developing effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Non-judgemental and compassionate approach
  • Ideal applicants will also have a prescriber qualification

Prior to joining Practice Plus Group I spent almost 10 years working in community, but I have found that the prison environment is where I feel I can utilise my skills and truly make a difference. I see patients with complex health issues, I help keep them informed about their medication and support out-patients in managing their conditions day to day.
