ISLINGTON ADDITIONAL NEEDS and DISABILITY SERVICESOccupational Therapist- working in the Social Communication Team (0-5 years)10 sessions (full time 37.5 hrs per week) – permanentBand 6Whittington Health comprises Islington community services, Haringey community services, Camden speech and language therapy and the Whittington Hospital.Islington Additional Needs and Disability Service (IANDS) provides a multi-agency team approach to working with babies, children and young people who present with a wide range of needs.We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated Occupational Therapist to join the Social Communication Team; a specialist service for autistic children of 5 years and under. The team provides assessment, diagnosis and intervention for individual children, support for their parents, and support, training and consultation to staff across a range of providers. You will need to be passionate about autism, working in a multi-disciplinary team and able to work sensitively with very young children with additional needs and their parents.Main duties of the jobYou will be responsible for the effective delivery of individualised support and care to children undergoing neurodevelopmental assessments and receiving post-diagnostic support.You will work as part of a team of Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Clinical Psychologists and Neurodevelopmental Paediatricians. The post holder will be based primarily at the Northern Health Centre. You will receive regular supervision and receive relevant in-service and external training. - Specialist clinical skills e.g. early intervention, child development, sensory based strategies
Desirable
- Knowledge of Occupational Performance Coaching (OPC)
- Knowledge of the role of an OT in a neurodevelopmental assessment.
- Knowledge of autism diagnostic criteria and other neurodevelopmental conditions

- Experience of working with children with additional needs, including autism.

- Experience of sharing difficult news with parents/carers
