Our client is a specialist civil engineering and highways contractor serving local and transport authorities throughout the North West of England.Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and submit estimates for civil engineering and highways schemes, based on Bills of Quantities (BOQs) and direct drawings.
  • Conduct site meetings, measurements, and negotiations with clients to agree on methods of working.
  • Engage with clients for upcoming schemes and provide input during the early stages.
  • Produce detailed project programmes (MS Project) and method statements.
  • Work alongside the Procurement Manager to foster strong relationships with key supply chain partners.
  • Collaborate with the Managing Director and Bid Team on PQQ/Framework submissions.
  • Prepare Estimator handover files for site teams, detailing build-ups, assumptions, and targets.
  • Assist the commercial team with Compensation Events.
  • Work with the commercial team to develop and implement the business development strategy

Candidate Requirements:Essential:

  • Experience in Highways Estimating or as a Senior QS.
  • Proficiency in Causeway, Candy, or similar estimating software.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Experience in a commercial/engineering role within the construction industry.
  • Knowledge of NEC3 Contracts and Standard Method of Measurement.
  • Ability to work independently and manage deadlines effectively.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Competence in MS Office and MS Project.
  • Excellent presentation skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience writing method statements.
  • Knowledge or qualifications in construction health and safety.
  • Experience in bid writing.
  • Familiarity with take-off software.
