Purpose: Purpose – To play a key role in the UK Medical Gas Solutions Engineering function, ensuring that the Company has a range of high quality, technically innovative and commercially competitive medical products to offer to the market. Primary responsibility will be driving product value through innovation and efficiency of process. In addition, the role requires that the candidate will be responsible for the continuous improvement and re-engineering of existing products. Duties include engineering support and assistance to other functions internal, and external to the business.Scope: Scope – Working as part of the Engineering team, the role is very much ‘hands on’ where you will be tasked with creating innovative new designs to expand our current product portfolio. The role will also be involved with maintaining existing product ranges, with projects focused on optimization and cost savings. Additionally, you will support the Customer Center with problem solving and techncial enquires. The position reports to the Engineering Manager of Medical products at Walker Filtration and will involve extensive cross functional interaction, particularly with marketing, production, quality and supply chain at all stages of product development.Please note that this job description is intended only to act as a guide to the requirements of this role and is not an exhaustive list.   • Design and validation of electrical panels and control systems for purifiers, manifold and vacuum system.
  • Selection of pressure and temperature sensors and switches.
  • The maintenance and continuous improvement of existing product with electrical control systems.
  • To participate in projects when required, providing competent Engineering support on electrical.
  • The production and maintenance of technical documentation, including CAD drawings, BOM, technical files, design calculations, technical specifications, test data, etc.
  • Continuous interrogation of product and components to identify and implement cost savings and performance improvement.
  • Product approvals and all mandatory legislation compliance, such as EMC and low voltage safety.

PERSON SPECIFICATION – Design EngineerThe competencies listed are appropriate to the Design Engineer and are an illustration of the qualities that the Company requiresProfessional Requirements

  • As an experienced Electrical Design Engineer, you will be technically strong and will ideally have a relevant bachelor’s degree (with an Electrical bias)
  • At least 3 years in similar Engineering design role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong abilities in, detail design and problem-solving techniques
  • Strong CAD background and being able to populate the circuit diagram with AutoCAD.
  • Proficient MS Office User (particularly Word, Excel and MS Project)
  • Experienced in technical report writing, such as technical specifications and verification report.
  • Ability to communicate and deliver technical information at all levels, both internally and supplier facing.

A knowledge of the following would be viewed as advantageous:

  • European and International mandatory approvals, e.g. Low Voltage Directive (LVD), Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Directive, UL would be beneficial.
  • Medical Device Directive (MDD) / Medical Device Regulation (MDR)
  • ISO13485 with experience on medical devices.
