Reference no.: 3669With a new data stewardship program, the University of Vienna plans to expand the existing services in the area of ​​research data management in line with discipline-specific needs. The Center for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science is therefore looking for a highly motivated person (m/f/d) with professional experience in data management and processing, quality control, data evaluation and analysis or related areas for the position of data steward.Your personal sphere of influence:As a data steward at the Center for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science, you will support scientists in the sustainable handling of research data and the development of strategies for discipline-specific research data management that complies with the FAIR principles. Together with the researchers at the center, as well as in exchange with experts from the university’s research support services, the data stewardship coordinator of the university library and data stewards from other faculties, you will further develop research data management within the center. A diverse and promising working environment awaits you.The position is initially limited to a period of 1 year, with the option of extension.This is what you do specifically:

• Focus in the first year: Implementation of an electronic lab notebook, including the development of the corresponding training materials, templates and a monitoring system
• Consulting and support for researchers in the field of research data management and open science, with a focus on biological (sequence data, microscopy) and chemical-analytical (mass spectroscopic) data and data analysis
• Conception and implementation of needs-based training on research data management and open science, especially in the area of ​​the Vienna Doctoral School of Microbiology and Environmental Science and the postdoc training at the Center
• Conception of workflows for data exchange and storage of laboratory-based instruments and their implementation together with the IT team
• Conception and development of innovative discipline-specific services in the field of research data management
• Connection to international platforms for the exchange and archiving of research data – Awareness-building for sustainable research data management
• Development of processes, policies and standards for research data management
• Support in the preparation of data management plans for national (e.g. FWF

) and international research projects (e.g. EU ) ? Support in the documentation and archiving of research permits, such as permits under the Nagoya Protocol or sample import or export documents * Conducting needs surveys among researchers at the center

• Networking in university-internal, national and international networks and initiatives

This is part of your personality:

• Completed diploma or master’s degree in one of the subjects to be supervised, or in the field of data science
• Experience in research data management and open science
• Good knowledge of research practice, broad understanding of research processes and the role of data and data processing for the quality and reproducibility of research results
• Experience in planning and conducting training courses
• Very good written and spoken English skills
• Very good knowledge of German or the willingness to acquire it

• Strong social and communicative skills
