Reference no.: 4334The position is limited to one year with the option of a permanent contract.Your personal sphere of influence:The Mass Spectrometry infrastructure at the University of Vienna Biology Building (UBB) is equipped with diverse online-separation techniques and Mass Spectrometry instruments, enabling a wide range of applications, including proteomics and metabolomics. The Research Support Facility at UBB offers online separation techniques coupled with high-resolution mass spectrometry instruments, with a primary focus on proteomics and protein mass spectrometry. This enables both qualitative and quantitative analysis of diverse and complex analytes. As a Core Facility of the Faculty of Life Sciences, the Research Support Facility offers easy access to a wide range of collaborative projects.Your future tasks:Your role entails various technical and administrative support tasks, guided by general instructions and guidelines. These responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and setup of instruments within the Mass Spectrometry unit of the Research Support Facility.
  • Supporting data analysis for collaborators and optimizing sample preparation protocols.
  • Helping to set up experiments, including preparing laboratory spaces and arranging necessary equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Maintaining accurate records, documentation, and reports.
  • Assisting with organizational tasks, such as coordinating meetings and providing logistical support for Mass Spectrometry-related projects within the Spectrometry Unit at the Research Support Facility.
  • Supporting the ordering and handling of MS measurement bills associated with the Mass Spectrometry facility.
  • Assisting with inventory updates for chemicals, reagents, supplies, consumables, equipment, and other related items.
  • Facilitating effective communication within the team and with external collaborators.
  • Supporting documentation efforts, including filing documents and managing data storage.
  • Demonstrating flexibility by taking on additional or new responsibilities to support the Mass Spectrometry unit/Research Support Facility.

This is part of your personality:We are seeking a skilled laboratory professional with:

  • A diploma from a technical school (such as HTL Rosensteingasse) or an associate degree in a chemical or technical field
  • Proficiency in handling chemicals, solvents, and making solutions
  • Excellent German language skills (native speaker level)
  • Strong English communication skills
  • Proficiency in basic calculations, Excel, and office tasks is required
  • Attention to details, reliability, and the ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication skills, Teamplayer, Flexibility
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a team
  • Prior experience in mass spectrometry is advantageous, though not required
  • Familiarity with proteomic sample preparation, R scripting, and previous experience as a lab technician or in lab management are all considered a plus
