Limited to 6 years, with the possibility to gain an unlimited contract. Expected start: December 2025.The candidate and TU Wien can agree upon a tenure evaluation, which when positive, opens the possibility to change the position to Associate Professor with an unlimited contract.The tenure-track position is affiliated to the Institute of Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer (E322), Research Unit “Fluid Mechanics” (E322-01). Duties include research and teaching in the fields of fluid mechanics and multiphase flows. The focus of research is the development of an understanding of flows in porous media with morphology modifications, with the aid of experiments and simulations. The successful candidate is expected to lead the research group Environmental Fluid Mechanics in the frame of the research unit of Fluid Mechanics.Tasks:Research:

  • Development of numerical, experimental and physical models for the prediction of flows in porous media with morphology modifications, with phase-change, with reactive media and with reactive media with phase change.
  • Research and development in the field of convective flows in porous media with morphology modifications.

Teaching:

  • In teaching, it is planned that this career position will cover parts of the Fluid Mechanics and the Multiphase Flows courses in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs of Mechanical Engineering and Chemical and Process Engineering, both in lectures and in project work.

Your profile:Required

  • A domestic or equivalent foreign university degree with a doctorate (in physics or mechanical engineering, specializing in environmental and energy science)
  • Outstanding achievements and potential in research, international reputation
  • Profound knowledge and extensive previous experience on multiphase flows, with a focus on convection in porous media
  • Advanced experience in experimental techniques for porous media flows
  • Advanced experience in numerical techniques for porous media flows
  • Excellent publication record in topics related to multiphase flows and convection in porous media
  • Teaching experience in the area of fluid mechanics at University level and the supervision or co-supervision of academic theses
  • At least two years of scientific employment outside TU Wien, preferably outside Austria (e.g., PreDoc/Postdoc)
  • Joint theoretical and experimental projects/publications that demonstrate the ability to collaborate with experimental and computational colleagues
  • Experience in the acquisition and implementation of third-party funded projects (both in the field of basic research and applied research)
  • Proof of acquired project funding at a highly competitive level (e.g. ERC Grant, FWF START Prize) in accordance with the Excellence Initiative of TU Wien and the Faculty of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering

Desired

  • Pedagogic and didactic suitability for academic teaching in the relevant subject in German and English
  • Excellent experimental and programming skills
  • Own funding during the postdoc phase and experience abroad in the context of research stays, for example via national (e.g., FWF Schrödinger) or international (e.g.,Marie Sklodowska-Curie) fellowships, is desirable
  • Experience in leading an externally-funded project
  • Ability to collaborate with other research groups at TU Wien and with national and international research partners
  • National and international research collaborations
  • Excellent German and English language skills appropriate to the position (preferable certified GER level C1)
