This could be the perfect time for you to join us in our Digital Policing Department as a SQL Server DBA.To support, monitor and maintain the databases that service all in-house and third party supplied applications as well as designing and developing performant new database solutions that support force data strategies, quality, integrity and security.We are seeking an SQL Server Database Administrator with extensive knowledge and experience in SQL Server administration in Microsoft Azure and on-premises environments. You will manage all aspects of database administration in a single and clustering environment including and not limited to planning, installation, upgrades, patching, configuration, security configuration, backup and restore, optimisation and monitoring of SQL Server databases.What you’ll do

  • Manage and develop database implementations to resolve issues and identify potential problems and trends, ensuring that the performance of the systems and support services remain in line with Service Level Agreements to provide a customer focused service that meets the needs of the organisation.
  • Ensure effective and efficient system performance via database performance tuning and optimisation, using monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Maintain enterprise database software, produce test plans, regression and rollback plans and patch timings for business continuity planning
  • Undertake impact assessments in relation to patching, applications releases and deprecated products and features to ensure that the risks of system changes are fully understood by the system owners and Digital Policing support teams.
  • Review database design and schema changes to migrate schema changes from development to production environments.
  • Liaise with internal and external user groups, manufacturers and suppliers to progress work of the section to ensure all parties are providing an effective and efficient service.
  • Support both the planned activity of Programme and Project Managers to deliver new systems and services by assisting in the design and implement of high availability database structures that supports 24/7 mission critical systems and test disaster recovery solutions for database services.
  • Implement the principles of data security by aligning applications and Digital Policing products to reflect Force policy and industry best practice to assist auditing and data management processes.
  • Document data interface protocols that detail how data and information is accessed.
  • Participate in the system of implementation and recovery procedures, taking part in the call-out/stand-by rota, in order to satisfy the needs of system users.

  • Degree, HND or equivalent qualification, and/or have significant relevant experience.
  • Practical experience of T-SQL(SQL Server).
  • Experience of administering SQL Server Databases.
  • Experience of high availability and disaster recovery options.
  • Experience of backup and recovery procedures.
  • Experience of installing, upgrading and patching.
  • Experience of monitoring, tuning and securing databases.
  • Knowledge & application of principles of safe data management.
  • Ability to prioritise and plan to ensure that DBA work is delivered in a timely manner.
  • Strong estimating experience with an expectation that you will play a significant role in the planning of the work that you will be delivering.
  • Strong deployment planning experience and version control management.
  • Ability to bridge the gap between technical and business language to create pragmatic, appropriate solutions. Logical approach to troubleshooting and use of appropriate tools.
  • A passion for supporting the development of others by identifying areas.
  • Effectively communicate with officers and staff across the organisation Communicate complex and challenging technical issues an ability to proactively build, develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, using your excellent communication skills.
