Expected start: September 2025.The work contract is initially limited to six years. The candidate and TU Wien can agree upon a tenure evaluation, which when positive, opens the possibility to change the position to Associate Professor with an unlimited contract.The tenure-track position is affiliated to the Institute of Applied Synthetic Chemistry. Duties include research and teaching in the field of physical bioorganic chemistry. The focus of research should be on physical bioorganic computational chemistry, particularly for the quantitative analysis of intermolecular interactions and the design of (bio)molecular transformations.Tasks:Research:

  • Development of new strategies and concepts for reaction design with biological relevance
  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis of intermolecular interactions using quantum chemical methods
  • Research on chemical reactions across multiple scales – from small molecules to enzymatic systems
  • Development of computational tools for the design of (bio)molecular reactions and the precise description of chemical reactivity
  • Administrative tasks in the research group, at the Institute and in the Faculty of Technical Chemistry (including the supervision of research projects, infrastructure, strategic programmes and network activities)
  • Active cooperation with other research groups at TU Wien

Teaching:

  • In teaching, it is planned that this career position will cover parts of the organic chemistry courses in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in Technical Chemistry and in the Bachelor’s degree programme in Process Engineering, both in lectures and in laboratory exercises
  • Active contribution to the advancement of innovative teaching formats, in particular through the integration of digital tools to support the understanding of chemical concepts
  • Independent teaching to establish the topic of the career position in the curricula of the faculty is expected
  • Involvement in basic and research-led teaching, as well as direct supervision of Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD students is planned.
  • It is noted that Bachelor’s teaching at TU Wien is currently in German, while Master’s teaching has recently switched to English and appropriate language skills are thus required

Your profile:Required:

  • A domestic or equivalent foreign university degree with a doctorate in technical chemistry or chemistry
  • Several years of international experience gained through research stays abroad (e.g., as a postdoctoral researcher)
  • Excellent scientific publication activity in the international specialist literature
  • In-depth expertise in the analysis of chemical reactions and reaction design using quantum chemical methods
  • Solid knowledge in the investigation of intermolecular interactions using quantum chemical approaches (e.g., energy decomposition analysis)
  • Lecture and presentation practice
  • Experience in the acquisition and implementation of third-party funded projects
  • Willingness to lead a research group and to take on management tasks within the organisational structure
  • German and English language skills at B2 level

  • Experience in leading a research group and in project management
  • Experience with the use of innovative digital teaching methods in chemical education
  • Organisational aptitude and teamwork skills as well as excellent communication skills
