We are looking for a Consultant Obstetric Anaesthetist to join our established team. The post is a replacement post for an upcoming retirement and will be based at Singleton Hospital.There will also be the opportunity for the successful candidate to undertake a variety of other subspecialty elective work across the health board through a number of flexible sessions.Main duties of the jobThe successful applicant will be responsible for the provision of emergency and elective general anaesthesia to the population of SBUHB within the scope of practice reflected in the provisional ‘Job Plan’ (please see Job Description).The on-call commitment will be to the Obstetric Anaesthetic Rota at a minimum frequency of 1 in 8. In addition to emergency obstetric care, and in rare circumstances, the post will include out of hours emergency cover of the CEPOD theatre.The successful applicant will work with and support 2 resident anaesthetists, one of which has sole responsibility to the labour ward and the other to the wider hospital and labour ward.The provisional job plan includes a “flexible in year” component. These sessions are included in order to both support a candidates specialist interests as well as providing the department with the ability to facilitate availability against clinical need.About usSwansea Bay University Health Board has responsibility for the health of around 390,000 people in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas, with a budget of around £1 billion and employing 12,500 people.   • Licensed to practice
  • CCT in Anaesthesia (or expected within 6 months of interview) or on Specialist Register with GMC (or expected within 6 months of interview)
  • Advanced Training Module in Obstetric Anaesthesia as part of CCT or equivalent experience and expertise in Obstetric anaesthesia

Desirable

  • Advanced Training Module in Perioperative medicine or equivalent experience and expertise in Perioperative Medicine
  • Further relevant degree/diploma
  • Teaching qualification/Higher qualification in medical education
