As a driver of innovation, TU Wien fosters close collaboration with business and industry and contributes to the prosperity of society.At the Atominstitut, in the Research Unit of Quantum Optics and Quantum Information TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant (prae-doc) limited to expected 4 years for 30 hours/week. Expected start: July 2025.Tasks:
- Contribution to ongoing research projects and preparation of project-related deliverables
- Conduct theoretical research on the certification and quantification of quantum correlations, with a focus on scalable and realistic photonic systems
- Develop experimentally accessible criteria and methods to identify and control quantum correlations in complex optical setups
- Active participation in teaching activities, including assistance with courses, examinations, and supervision of students
- Writing of a doctoral dissertation and scientific publications
- Participation in national and international scientific events, workshops, and conferences
- Involvement in organizational, administrative, and coordination tasks within the research group and institute
Your profile:
- Completed Master’s or equivalent degree (e.g., Diploma) in Physics, Mathematics, or a closely related discipline
- Solid background in theoretical physics, applied mathematics, or equivalent
- Strong interest in research in quantum optics, quantum information, or related areas. (experience in these areas is desirable but not mandatory)
- Willingness to contribute to collaborative research projects and co-supervise students
- Proficiency in scientific programming (e.g., Python, C++, Julia, or Wolfram Mathematica)
- Familiarity with numerical simulations, symbolic computation, or software development for research. Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git) and reproducible research practices
- Strong communication and presentation skills (working language: English)
- Excellent teamwork abilities and collaborative mindset. High motivation, reliability, and independent work ethic. Goal-oriented, structured, and methodical approach to scientific work
- Experience with international collaboration or academic mobility (e.g., exchange programs, internships)
- Interest in outreach, teaching assistance, or mentoring undergraduate students
