Then join our accomplished team!Your personal sphere of influence:The Department of Linguistics is a sub-unit of the Faculty of Philological and Cultural Studies which conducts internationally visible cutting-edge research in the fields of General Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, and Historical Linguistics.The Department of Linguistics at the University of Vienna wishes to appoint an university assistant (at predoctoral level).As a university assistent prae doc, you will be tasked with research assistance, teaching, organization of workshops, talks etc, among others.The focus of our research is in theoretical linguistics, particularly generative linguistics (syntax, morphology, phonology, semantics).The position is limited to the period of an employee´s leave, from 1 March 2025 to 20 May 2025.Your future tasks:Participation in research, teaching and administration in the area of General Linguistics:
- Participation in research projects / research studies
- Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations
- We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months.
- Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
- Help with Supervision of students
- Involvement in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums
- Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration
This is part of your personality:
- Completed Master’s degree or Diploma, in linguistics with a thesis in formal syntax, semantics or pragmatics
- Good knowledge of formal syntax and semantics
- Experience in academic writing and with research methods
- First academic publications, international talks and participation in international meetings and conferences are highly desirable
- Didactic competences / experience with e-learning
- Excellent command of written and spoken English (C1 Level)
- IT user skills, preferably Latex
- You are motivated and self-propelled
- You are flexible and creative
- You should be a team player with high social skills
