This professorship is dedicated to the fields of medical ethics, the ethics of nursing and diaconal sciences. The professorship is based at the Institute of Systematic Theology of the Faculty of Protestant Theology ( ). At the same time, it is associated with the Institute of Ethics and Law in Medicine (IERM, ). Its focus there will be on questions of medical ethics. A continuation of the cooperation with the Faculty of Catholic Theology and the Faculty of Law is expected. It is also expected that the successful candidate will continue to cooperate with the Institute of Nursing Sciences of the University of Vienna and the endowed professorship for nursing sciences at the Medical University of Vienna. The successful candidate will offer courses dedicated, inter alia, to questions of medical ethics, as well as carrying out his or her original research in this field. In addition, a cooperation with the Institute of Public Theology and Ethics at the Deaconry of Austria is desirable. This professorship will strengthen the University’s strategic priority on “Global Health” and contribute to establishing the University of Vienna as a nationally and internationally visible center of diaconal studies in the German-speaking countries next to Heidelberg, Bielefeld and Berne. It is expected that the successful candidate will be involved in the “Doctoral School of Theology and Research on Religion”.In the sense of §15 paragraph 2 of the Federal Law on the External Legal Relations of the Protestant Church in Austria (BGBl 182/1961), membership of the Protestant Church is required.Your academic profile:

  • Doctoral degree/PhD
  • Two years of international research experience during or after doctoral studies
  • Outstanding research achievements, excellent publication and funding record, international reputation
  • Gender and diversity competence
  • Experience in designing of and participating in research projects, ability to lead research groups and acquire third-party funding
  • Enthusiasm for excellent teaching and supervision at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral level

We expect the successful candidate to acquire, within three years, proficiency in German sufficient for teaching in bachelor’s programmes and for participation in university committees.We offer:
