About the roleBalfour Beatty are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Site Manager to join our Power Transmission and Distribution team for the prestigious London Power Tunnels project. As the Site Manager, you will play a crucial role in the delivery of a major infrastructure project, ensuring the smooth execution of daily operations while maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.

  • The Location for this role is based Near Bexleyheath
  • We also require you to have National Grid experience

  • Attend periodic project reviews (PRM) and update the Digital Briefcase in accordance with GBL
  • Maintain accurate project records (progress, daily diaries etc.)
  • Prepare both internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders
  • Initiates good scope/information/configuration management principles
  • Helps to ensure reports provide relevant information to enable informed, cost effective decisions in line with overall strategy
  • Helps to ensure scope and package assignment supports the team in coordinated working
  • Implement technical information and drawings into delivery
  • Understand and specify plant and equipment requirements
  • Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm & keep up to date with changes in legislation
  • Be Visible and drive safety on site daily, at least 1 Sensible Monitoring Tour per week
  • Ensure Site and Project Engineers are completing Sensible Monitoring Tours in line with SMS Schedule
  • Adherence to BB’s Golden Rules at all times
  • Ensure BB’s Fatal Risks are adequately monitored and managed
  • Partially responsible for the safety and welfare of the general public, employees and supply chain
  • Carry out periodic Safety & Environmental Tours/promote observation and safety initiatives
  • Support Accident/Incident Investigations
  • Monitor effectiveness of the H&S Management System and implement improvement solutions
  • Write RAMS and accept subcontractor RAMS
  • Identifying, raising and reporting risks and hazards
  • Ensure sufficiency and competency of workforce
  • Understand, control and issue safety documentation
  • Help to develop, implement and update resource allocation plans (OBS) and raise appropriate requests
  • Plan and ensure delivery to programme
  • Check competencies

  • Empowerment to stop worksCoordinate with other project activities and internal functions
  • Motivate and empower the team using the resources available through training, mentoring and performance management.

  • Assist the Project Manager to lead risk/opportunity reviews, present the Risk Register and recommend/implement changes
  • Management of subcontractors, including monitoring of contractor attendance and progress, providing direct instruction and support as necessary, such that contractual arrangements are achieved
  • Follow targets/KPI’s in line with project objectives and monitor performance
  • Ensure assurance activities (audits) are undertaken and take appropriate action on findings
  • Ensure Inspection and Test Plans and associated checklists are prepared and completed in line with programme
  • Contribute towards workshops that cover the principles of continuous improvement
  • repair and own the site lookahead programme in conjunction with support staff
  • Drive progress on site in line with site lookahead programme
  • Help to develop, implement and periodically update resource loaded schedules
  • Ensure team adopt productivity and project controls techniques
  • Monitor progress and implement Short Interval Control processes/hold weekly meeting
  • Ensure production of operational milestones reflect master schedule and customer expectations

Who we’re looking forThe following qualities/experience are essential:

  • Experience in implementing safe systems of work
  • Experience in managing risks and change processes
  • Familiarity with UK Environmental and Waste Regulations
  • Familiarity with NG Transmission Procedures and Supplier Requirements
  • Good understanding of the standard forms of contracts
  • Proficient in commercial/project management communications
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbal and written with all levels of the organisation
  • Good interpersonal skills that enable working relationships to be developed at all levels across the business and be able to negotiate and influence
  • Able to undertake work in high pressure situations with a flexible attitude
  • A record of a solutions-based approach to problem solving
  • Communicate and check understanding of daily briefings
  • Two way communication e.g. brief out weekly safety pack
  • Discuss ideas and plans competently
  • Communicate new concepts and ideas to non-technical stakeholders

The following qualities/experience are desirable:

  • Experience of working on a variety of project types
  • Proficient on O365
  • Holds a current driving license

The role holder is likely to have one or more of the following:

  • Holds CSCS and SMSTS or Equivalent
  • National Grid Competent Person (NSI 6 & 8 Full)
  • Temporary Works Coordinator
  • HSG47
