Main purpose of job:The Post Security Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day security provision at the British High Commission implementing security policy under the direction of the Regional Security Advisor and Post Security Officer.Roles and responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the Regional Security Advisor in the daily assurance of security to the British High Commission, Kingston. Acting as Security Manager in the event of a crisis, providing arrivals security briefings to new staff and visitors on security environment and arrangements.
  • Under the guidance of the RSA, the job holder will lead on liaison with security interlocuters and the local police force, responsible for security of the BHC and Diplomatic properties.
  • Hawkeye guard contract manager for both the British High Commission including where necessary through attendance and supervision at large events held on compound or exterior locations. Contribute to performance management, guard development, providing regular constructive feedback and ensuring safeguarding and welfare standards are observed.
  • Participate in security meetings with the RSA, reporting security issues of the previous 24 hours and likely issues for the next 24 hours.
  • Active participation at monthly meetings with Hawkeye management to discuss Key Performance Indicators, providing feedback to the RSA.
  • Manage and report on Embassy and contracted Guard Force equipment, raising reports issues and deficiencies, keeping the RSA appraised of any resultant risks as required.
  • Be a daily presence in the Embassy, be forward facing and field security questions and requests from BHC staff.
  • Conduct emergency drills and in the event of an emergency alarm taking responsibility for identifying the cause and resulting necessary action in coordination with the RSA.
  • Ensure monthly testing of radios and satellite phones.
  • Attend PSC to give overview of security situation in Jamaica.
  • Attend Crisis Management meetings.
  • Maintain liaison with Host Nation security forces, ensuring relevant flow of security information to RSA and PSO is maintained. Act as the conduit between security interlocuters and local police on their view and analysis of the security picture in Kingston.
  • Take a leading role in the design and delivery of security plans, for regular large-scale functions at the BHC, under guidance from the RSA.
  • Taking a lead security role for visiting VIPs.
  • Responsible for liaising with Corporate Services with regards to annual security budget.
  • The jobholder will have a good degree of autonomy though will have the full support of the RSA and colleagues across the mission. S/he will need to work flexibly to prioritise against competing demands. An ability to maintain effective internal and external networks is required.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • A minimum of 5 years previous security experience
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Flexibility & ability to maintain professionalism under pressure
  • Relevant PC experience including MS Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint, Teams)

Language requirements:Language: English
Level of language required: FluentDesirable qualifications, skills and experience

  • A minimum of 2 years’ previous experience in team management
  • Experience of working within organisations with safeguarding, bullying, harassment and discrimination mitigation frameworks
  • Knowledge of Host Nation security force structure and organisation, not necessarily from a background of military or police service
