OCHAWork LocationVienna, AustriaExpected duration3-6 months, envisaged starting date on 7 November, 2024 The internship is in-person, with flexibility to work from home for some days, depending on requirements of service.Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis position is located in the Visitors Service Unit, United Nations Information Service (UNIS) United Nations Office at Vienna (Austria). The position is for three months with the envisaged starting date on 7 November 2024 and the possibility of an extension for a further three months. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the direct supervision of Professional staff of the Unit. For more information on the Visitors Service, please visit the following website: www.unvienna.org/visit The Visitors Service of the UN Information Service in Vienna seeks to enhance public understanding of the work and role of the United Nations and its Vienna presence through guided tours and lectures, while generating income for the Organization, as mandated by UN Member States. The Service usually welcomes more than 50,000 visitors per year. Guided tours are conducted by a diverse pool of tour guides in different languages in accordance with the daily work plan and needs of the Service. A large proportion of visitors are children and young people, for whom the Service offers different tailored formats, for example an SDG tour. For academic and professional audiences, the Visitors Service collaborates with all Vienna-based organizations of the UN family to organize lectures by thematic experts. Visitors Service interns support all aspects of the Service by helping to increase the quality of services and materials for visitors. The intern shall undertake the following duties which may include, but are not limited to: – Support the Unit’s Lecture Coordinator in providing outstanding client service to academic and professional groups attending thematic lecture programmes organized by the UNIS Vienna Visitors Service; – Assist with researching, drafting and editing substantive information for visitors and tour guides; – Assist with research, design, production and management of printed information materials, exhibits, photos, video and other multimedia resources for guided tours and lectures; – Participate in activities, including special events, media promotions and social media campaigns to promote guided tours of the UN in Vienna in the tourist sector; – Track, analyze and help evaluate visitor feedback; – Support the Unit during a recruitment and training exercise for new tour guides; – Assist the Tour Coordinator at the VIC Visitors Centre if needed; – Perform other tasks as necessary.Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). (OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED T THE INSPIRATION APPLICATION) Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D.
