Senior Lecturer in Cardiovascular Extracellular Matrix Biology

Imperial College London

Job title:

Senior Lecturer in Cardiovascular Extracellular Matrix Biology

Company

Imperial College London

Job description

Location: White City CampusAbout the role:An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Lecturer in Extracellular Matrix Biology within the Cardiovascular Division of the National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI), Faculty of Medicine. With the recent recruitment of Prof. Manuel Mayr’s team, the NHLI is increasingly focusing on leveraging proteomics data to advance our understanding of cardiovascular diseases. Extracellular matrix (ECM) remodelling is a key feature of most cardiovascular diseases, and proteomics offers an exceptional approach to comprehensively characterize this process by enabling the simultaneous detection and quantification of all ECM proteins. This includes the analysis of clinical samples as well as characterizations of ECM remodelling in in vivo and in vitro models. Furthermore, the broad scope of proteomics allows for seamless integration with data from other ‘-omics’ methodologies, such as single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNAseq), collected from similar samples. This integrated approach provides a powerful platform for dissecting disease processes at the molecular level with unprecedented precision. We are seeking an experienced scientist in cardiovascular ECM biology to join a team of world-renowned experts in proteomics, cardiovascular imaging, and scRNAseq at the NHLI, harnessing the potential of ECM proteomics to address a crucial determinant of cardiovascular pathophysiology. What you would be doing:The successful applicant will be based within the Vascular Sciences Division at the Sir Michael Uren Hub, joining an established team of research and clinician scientists. The post holder will contribute to the delivery of outstanding research at NHLI, with a focus on cardiovascular ECM biology. The appointee is expected to develop their own research programme in cardiovascular ECM, with a strong emphasis on the mechanisms involved in the progression of human cardiovascular diseases. Ideally, the appointee’s research programme will integrate proteomics to explore the ECM and utilize animal models to follow up on findings from clinical samples. What we are looking for:

  • You will develop a broad range of research within the field of cardiovascular biology
  • You will foster national and international scientific collaborations with other world-leading centres
  • You will teach and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • You will demonstrate excellent leadership skills with regards to individual performance, academic teams, the NHLI, Faculty, College, clinical teams, and when participating in national/international initiatives.

Essential requirements

  • PhD or equivalent in Cardiovascular Sciences
  • Extensive research experience
  • Proficiency in managing and analysing proteomics datasets
  • Strong translational research integrating in vivo/in vitro findings
  • Consistent portfolio of publications as first and senior/corresponding author
  • Experience in preparing grant applications
  • Experience in staff supervision
  • Experience in training Undergraduate and Postgraduate students
  • Success in securing external funding, i.e. fellowships or project grants
  • Capacity to produce research that meets international standards of excellence

What we can offer you:

  • The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution
  • Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 39 days off a year)

Further InformationThe post is full-time and open ended, subject to satisfactory academic progress.
